Salt and Pepper Shakers have been around for quite some some.  They have a rich history and have become one of todays most sought after collectible items.  In the Victorian era, salt was placed in open cellars and came in a rock form that had to be chipped of to produce salt to be used on foods.

It wasn’t unitl the 1940’s that the modern salt and pepper shaker started to take off.  This transition took place with the introduction of modern ceramic manufacturing which made the products more accessible and affordable.  The ceramic container allowed salt and pepper manufactures to create a wide variety of shapes and designs, which gave birth to novelty, souvenir and classic type shakers.   

Today, you can fins salt and pepper shakers in any form, or shape.  They can and are made to resemble animals, cartoons, flowers, people, and more. Thematerials used to make them are not only ceramic but are produced in an assortment of materials including wood, metal, ceramics, glass, and plastics.

Start your collection today!  But first, a word of warning. Don’t become overwhelmed and discouraged because there are thousands upon thousands of types of salt and pepper shakers in production and out of production.
